Dear Host Family!

My name is Monika, I am nineteen years old. I was born in Bydgoszcz - a city in northern Poland .       I have been living here my whole life. There are a lot of amazing places to spend free time around. We have a beautiful Old Town which is close to „Mill Island” and those are my favorite parts in my city. I go to high school and in this year I will pass matura exam. Currently, I still live with my parents: mum Katarzyna and dad Maciej, sister Paulina and a dog Pikus.

My mum is a confectioner and my dad works as a driver. My sister is four years younger than me. We are really close and we like to spend time together. I am very thankful that I have them and that we will have each other for the rest of our lives.  We talk a lot, play games, and spend a lot of time together. We try to eat dinner together as often as we can.

I would describe myself as reliable, caring, friendly, helpful, tolerant and trustworthy. I try to give the best of me in every situation. My friends are very important to me. I try to help them if they have any problems.

In my free time I like hanging out with my friends, reading books, playing volleyball and basketball. I also like swimming and climbing. Traveling is my other hobby. I love to visit interesting places or countries. Unfortunately for the time being I was only in Germany and Scotland.

I passed my driver exam last year and since then I drive a lot. Driving is a pure pleasure for me. I was taught how to drive in difficult and dangerous situations. When it comes to driving, safety is the most important for me so before I start the engine I always check if every passenger has their seatbelt fastened.  Everyone has to be safe when I am behind the wheel. I will feel comfortable to drive your children and they will be safe with me.

I have an experience in looking after children so now I will tell you something about that.               Since my cousins were born  I spent time with them. Now Hubert is six years old and Franek is four years old. When they were younger I was bottle-feeding them and changing nappies. I go out with them for a walk. They like puzzles and lego so I play with them. We also dance and sing together. Before sleep I read them books and I bathe them. Hubert has got trouble speaking so I go with him to a speech therapist and practice with him at home.  I also have good memories of time spent with Kalinka. She is a very nice and smart girl. I spent time with her just as with my cousins because she is the same age.                                                                                                               

I am also a volunteer in the organization dealing with children and teenage patients with Asperger's syndrome. On meetings we explain children what to do and what not to do in various situations. We work in groups and play scenes. That is just a small summary of my experience in looking after children.       

One of the reasons why I would like to become an au pair is that I love to spend my time with children. I enjoy it when I can teach them new things and I believe we can learn a lot of new stuff from them. I like to feel that I can help them in every way and I will do all I can to make them feel comfortable and happy. I would love to be the person who plays  with them, helps them with their homework and spends some quality time with them.                                                                                      

I have decided to come to the United States because I love travelling, getting to know new cultures and there is no better place in the world as diverse as the United States of America. I'll be able to admire beautiful and exotic views. Also I can meet people from around the world and meet friends who I could possibly have for the rest of my life. I also want to improve my English skills. I think this year could be the best year of my life and it will be very important for me.
